“For years, the court has been hacking away at the prosecutorial tools for combating bribery and corruption,” said Zephyr Teachout, a law professor at Fordham University in New York who has written extensively on the issue and who ran for governor in 2014. “Increasingly, the court has made it really hard to bring cases against anyone but the most inept criminals.”The trend began in 1999 when a Supreme Court case called United States v. It’s hard to imagine a worse time for a Punisher TV show. With a few exceptions, it's against federal regulations for your local television station to buy your local newspaper. Thursday, the Federal Communications Commission will vote on a proposal to change those rules. Since 1975, the commission has generally barred organizations from owning both a newspaper and a full-power radio or television station in the same market to protect what it calls "viewpoint diversity." In other words, the agency worried that if too few companies owned the dominant media players in a particular town, the public would suffer. Now, the FCC staff argues the cross-ownership rules are no longer necessary to protect a diversity of viewpoints because of "the multiplicity o... Read More

Development near commuter train stations in the suburbs is the key to regional housing affordability. That’s the conclusion of a new study from the Regional Plan Association, which claims more than 250,000 new homes can be added in the New York City suburbs by utilizing unused parking lots unlocked through ride sharing and the adoption of progressive zoning by local municipalities. Currently, the RPA study found that one of the major obstacles to housing affordability is restrictive zoning.
