The Listening Post examines the virtually non-stop coverage in the US media of a news story that, upon closer examination, has very little in the way of hard evidence to back it up: that the Kremlin has somehow undermined American democracy, helping land Donald Trump the White House. This past week, FBI Director James Comey told a congressional committee that there is an active investigation into Russian collusion with Trump officials during the election campaign but that there is still no proof it actually happened. That dominated another news cycle or two, with all kinds of conjecture offered in the absence of facts. Roughly 15 new services have been added to Google Assistant this week including actions for IMDB movie ratings and others that tell you when the food in your fridge will expire and hear Jaden Smith quotes. Actions are like voice-only apps for Google Assistant, like skills are for Alexa and Cortana. Among the most noteworthy new actions is Chefling. You can already ask Google Assistant to add grocery items to a Google Keep shopping list, but Chefling does a few specific things for grocery shopping and keeping track of what’s in your kitchen. By sharing your grocery list with Chefling, the Google Home action or app can tell you when food in your fridge is likely to expire or suggest recipes based on ingredients in your kitchen. How ISPs can sell your Web history—and how to stop them

Enlarge Getty Images | KrulUA reader comments 11 Share this story The US Senate yesterday voted to eliminate privacy rules that would have forced ISPs to get your consent before selling Web browsing history and app usage history to advertisers. Within a week, the House of Representatives could follow suit, and the rules approved by the Federal Communications Commission last year would be eliminated by Congress. So what has changed for Internet users? In one sense, nothing changed this week, because the requirement to obtain customer consent before sharing or selling data is not scheduled to take effect until at least December 4, 2017. ISPs didn’t have to follow the rules yesterday or the day before, and they won’t ever have to follow them if …

These brawls can last for hours, leaving blood and bodies in their aftermath. The violence is extreme, but the motivations are muddy. In this episode of 101 East, we talk to the teenagers on the frontline, their parents, teachers and the police about why so many otherwise regular kids are willing to fight and even kill their fellow pupils. – Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe– Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish– Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera– Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/

CreditILLUSTRATION BY KAYE BLEGVAD This week Page-Turner is publishing a series on Walt Whitman. Previously, Jia Tolentino wrote about an unusual use of Whitman’s poetry at a drug court in Alabama, Dan Piepenbring wrote on Whitman’s rediscovered men’s-health columns, and Jeffrey Yang wrote on Whitman and the sea. Late one night last May, Zachary Turpin, a graduate student in the English department at the University of Houston, sat in bed next to his sleeping wife and daughter, hunting for lost works by Walt Whitman on his laptop. Turpin has spent untold hours poring over journals, letters, and other ephemera in the Walt Whitman Archive, noticing the poet’s distinctive phrases and cadences; that night, he was searching through old newspapers, hoping to find echoes of …
