An analysis of the New York State Pension Fund (NYSPF) found that it underperformed compared to the Dow Jones and S&P 500 general market indices costing municipalities an estimated $19.7 billion, or approximately 46.2%, in higher pension premiums over the past 10 years. The cost to Nassau County is estimated to have been over $672 million over the last 10 years (2008-2017), or about $67 million annually, on average, in higher than necessary pension premiums for its employees. MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Syosset man arrested in Dec. 2015 for impersonating a federal air marshal and who was found with multiple weapons in his car and home was sentenced today to six years in prison and five years’ post-release supervision. Mineola, NY- Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos issued the 2016 Living Wage Law Annual Report highlighting the recovery of over $11K for underpaid employees and the frequent use of waivers that seek to sidestep compliance with the Living Wage Law. Cumulatively, the Comptroller’s efforts have recovered $1,089,259 of unpaid wages and uncredited compensated time off for employees since the law was enacted in 2007. During 2016 the County granted ten waivers to County vendors compared with eleven the prior year.
